The unexpected curry-night side.

A Plated final shot

It replaces the poppadom in our house, and in most houses that have tried it. A bowl of Nicely Spiced Kurma alongside a sharp tomato chutney. Nothing to cook.

Ingredients · serves 4
  • Nicely Spiced Kurma 1 tub
  • Fresh tomato chutney or kachumber 1 bowl
  • Red onion, finely sliced ½
  • Coriander, chopped a handful
  • Lime 1
Pairs with

Any curry with a good sauce, and a cold ginger beer or a salt lassi.

Method · 5 minutes
  1. Tip a full tub of Nicely Spiced Kurma into a wide, shallow bowl so people can reach in.
  2. Set the tomato chutney alongside for dipping and scooping.
  3. Scatter the red onion and coriander over the chutney and squeeze over the lime.
  4. Put both in the middle of the table with the curry, and watch the poppadoms go untouched.
